USF Track Dedication Ceremony - Friday March 18th at approx. 3pm. KPATOΣ/ΣN Brothers Lindsey DeGuehery (ΘA#13), Bill Keegan (ΘA#14)  and Bill Moore  (ΘA#436)will be recognized and honored by USF 45 years after the 3 of them dedicated the track. They will run a ceremonial lap around the track before the USF track meet.  Brother DeGuerhey was also on USF's 1st Varsity team- Cross Country and received one of USF's first varsity letters with Bill Keegan.
    Quarterly Luncheon

Thanks to Brothers Charlie Santana and Mickey Jaap for hosting the last luncheon on August 20th at Restaurant 717 in South Tampa! We've decided have luncheons quarterly or semiannually as opposed to having them monthly.  To get the full effect, it's great to host a luncheon at a location that has a separate room where brothers can say a few words as opposed to the loud and noisy restaurants. This time can be spent catching up with brothers and also allows time for the alumni board/committee members to talk about upcoming Sigma Nu events.  Hosting an event is as simple as calling up the restaurant to reseve the spot and handling the RSVP's...that simple. When picking a location, please be sensitive to price and location.  In the past, the luncheons that drew decent attendance were in downtown/South Tampa and Feather Sound.  If you are interested in hosting a luncheon please contact John Corso at:
    jcorso7@hotmail.com or 813.785.3986.

    USF: UNSTOPPABLE Campaign

    Sigma Nu takes leadership role...

In October, 2009, the University of South Florida launched the public phase of the most ambitious, comprehensive campaign in the university's 53-year history.  Called USF: Unstoppable, Campaign Chairman Les Muma, KΡATΟΣ/ΘΑ 687, announced at the kick-off event that the USF Foundation's goal is to raise $600 million. ( http://usfweb3.usf.edu/unstoppable/chair_message.aspx ). To date, a total of $383,250,935 has been raised in donor gifts and pledges.

In July, 2010, the Division of Student Affairs formed an Advisory Board with the goal to raise $4.1 million toward the campaign's overall $600 million goal.  Brothers Tom Gates, ΘΑ 077 and Jim Crotty, ΘΑ 116 serve on the USF Foundation Student Affairs Advisory Board and work with USF leadership and other community volunteers to help inspire others to support USF.  Their membership on the Advisory Board provides Sigma Nu with a unique opportunity to influence the plans, priorities and strategies for projects that directly affect the future of the Greek system at USF and specifically, Sigma Nu.

    How You Can Help

Your donor gifts and pledges to the USF: UNSTOPPABLE campaign can be leveraged to support Brother Mike Castellari'sHouse Corporation 2011 Fundraising Campaign.  Through the USF Foundation, you can specify that your gift go to either the Sigma Nu Special Purpose Housing Fund # 59039 or the Sigma Nu Scholarship Fund # 650001 (or both!).  Not only will your giftsgo directly to support Sigma Nu's $50,000 goal, they will also count toward the Student Affair's $4.1 million goal and the USF: UNSTOPPABLE Campaign's $600 million goal.  It's a win-win-win for Sigma Nu, Student Affairs and the USF: UNSTOPPABLE campaign!

If you would like to learn more about how you can get involved or how you can leverage your gifts, please contact Tom, (813-928-3813), Jim (813-653-0031) or Mike (813-918-4775).

    Active chapter update
    Sigma Nu Badge

In Fall of 2010, the active chapter welcomed 24 new brothers from the 104th pledge class into the Theta Alpha Chapter! This brings the chapter size to 60 and growing. IFC Spring recruitment has led to at least another 20 candidates for our chapter; this is the largest IFC spring recruitment of any fraternity at the  University!! Be on the lookout for the 104th's Knighting Ceremony invite later in February.

As the fall semester came to a successful conclusion, the current executive board
(Matt Dolson, Anthony Caselnova, Eric Kinney, Brent Davenport, Anthony Aguanno, Miguel Nieves and DJ Grant) plans to continue their second term stronger than ever to keep the positive momentum of Fall's achievements!

The chapter made it to the final round of flag football in the IM sports league
this season and took home many trophies from philanthropies as well! Theta Alpha took the 1st place trophy in Pi Kappa Alpha's cycling for a cure philanthropy and took 2nd in performance, and 3rd overall for their "ΣΝsync" performance in Sigma Delta Tau's Putting On The Hits (P.O.T.H.) philanthropy!

Outside of chapter, many members have gotten very involved on campus! Spencer Montgomery was just elected as the President of the
Interfraternity Council and is still serving in student government as the current Vice President of the student body! William Warmke has also joined student government as a Senator following his recent victory in the election in the College of Arts and Sciences! Eric Kinney still leads the Greek Programming Board as it's Executive Director and Nick Pastore, Brent Davenport, and William Warmke have joined the board as well! Tyler Richter is now a Green & Gold Guide at USF and remains to be the only fraternal member represented by the university!

    Friday Knight Lights

ΣΝ Effort to help St. Jude

On Friday, March 25th, 2011, the Theta Alpha chapter of Sigma Nu will be hosting their first ever annual, campus-wide philanthropy! Friday Knight Lights will be a co-ed flag football championship where teams will pair up with another organization and compete in a tournament to see who will set the stage for many years to come!

Unlike many other philanthropies, the bulk of our funds will come from sponsorships and donations. The support of the Sigma Nu alum will be crucial for this philanthropy's success in helping St. Jude!

If you have any comments or questions about this philanthropy please feel free to contact Eric Kinney at ekinney@mail.usf.edu or (732) 814-0670.

And please make all checks out to:

The active chapter really appreciates your support. Thank You.

Housing Corporation --- 2011 Fundraising Campaign

We have not had a major fund raising effort for the past two years for a couple of reasons:

    1)     The significant economic downturn has caused most all of us to readjust our priorities & spending habits, so the Housing Corporation felt it prudent to forego any fundraising efforts, in order to allow our alumni to focus on their economic priorities before reaching back out for support.

    2)     In previous years, the actives have struggled to maintain a full house, which resulted in debt to USF that the Alumni generously settled.  We are extremely excited to report that we have a very engaged & responsible group of young men in the Active Chapter who have completely filled the House!!  In addition, the Housing Corporation has developed a new plan which we feel confident will ensure that it stays at full capacity for the foreseeable future.  This will allow us to shift our focus towards using the money that we raise for making the necessary improvements to the House to not only maintain it at the high quality standards we all expect, but to also make it a place that both the Actives & Alumni can be very proud of and want to come to visit and share brotherhood.  Once we return the House to this level, we plan on hosting a large Sigma Nu Reunion like the one we launched at its original opening!  More to come on that...

Our fund raising goal for 2011 is $50,000.  This is a lofty goal, but I'm absolutely confident that we can reach it!  In order to accomplish this goal, we're putting together a much more formalized and thoughtful fund raising program consistent with those at other major universities with large groups of alumni.  We intend to spend the money raised based on priority in the following areas:

    1)     Improvements to the House to maintain it at the level we all expect

    2)     Scholarships

    3)     Alumni fundraising events (i.e; reunions, golf tournaments, socials, etc.)

    4)     Philanthropy

I want to personally thank you once again for all of your support in helping to raise the funds necessary to sustain the beauty of our House & continue to make Sigma Nu the most outstanding fraternity on the USF campus.

    Love & Respect,

    Mike Castellari (ΘΑ 462)

Advertise your company here! A few of you have asked if you could adverstise your company or an upcoming event.  We're all brothers and why not go to your own brothers for dental work, buying a house, or even to do your taxes.  We've decided to offer advertising space on our website.  The ad will run for 6 months and will cost: $25 for a business card ad, $50 for a half page ad, and $100 for all full page ad. Alumni Beach Weekend***Save the Date***June 24-26, 2011

After the last 2 year's hugely successful Alumni Beach weekends (over 100 people both time) we've decided to hold the event the same time every year, the weekend after Father's Day. This year's event will be held June 24-26, 2011 at the Beachcomber
    (727-367-1902) on St. Pete Beach.
The hotel's room rate will be the same low rate of $115 as we received last year. The rooms are under McSherry. There is no excuse for not having enough time to plan for next years event. So bring your family, kids, significant others and friends as it is sure to be a blast yet once again! We'll have all day access to the pool, beach, game room and of course, the tiki bar! We will have games for the different decades (horse shoes, corn hole, etc.) to compete against one another.  Pizza will be provided on Saturday. We will also have access to the overflow parking lot across the street -first come, first serve. It will be a fun filled day with friends & family in the sun!Hope to see everyone there!!

Formal recruitment was held from 9/6-9/13 and the active chapter got 25 new members and the house is now full again! This brings the chapter size to 60 and growing.  The active chapter usually tailgates with the alumni for USF Football games at the corner of Webb and Woodlawn behind the ABC Action News building, so please be sure to welcome the new members and say hello to the existing brothers. Elections were held in May, and were a huge success. The new Eminent Commander is Matt Dolson, the Lt. Commander is Anthony Caselnova, the Treasurer is Eric Kinney, the Recorder is Brent Davenport, the Pledge Marshal is Anthony Aguanno, the Chaplain is Miguel Nieves and the Sentinel is David (DJ) Grant. The new executive board plans on heading in the direction of a more committee oriented chapter.

Outside of chapter, many members have gotten very involved on campus! Eric Kinney is now the Executive Director of the Greek Programming Board and Spencer Montgomery is the Vice President of the student body!

The Pam and Les Muma Basketball Center is part of an extensive upgrade through USF to include a men's and women's basketball practice gymnasium, team support facilities including locker rooms, offices, meeting rooms, athletic training, strength training and equipment management facilities.

These efforts by USF were made possible by Sigma Nu alum Les Muma (KPATOΣ/ΘΑ687) in March of 2008; where he and his wife, Pam, gave the USF athletics department a $3 million gift as the lead effort on the new basketball center to continue his lifelong support of the program.
